What a personal year 5 is about
Five sits in the middle of the cycle and the tradition treats it as the point where the frame comes loose. The vocabulary is consistent across a century of sources: change, movement, appetite, the unexpected, the arrival of things nobody scheduled. It follows the year associated with hard structure, and numerologists like that adjacency because it lets them describe the 5 season as a test of whatever the 4 season built.
Reduce your birth month, reduce your birth day, reduce the calendar year, add, reduce again. Nothing from your birth year takes part, which is the whole distinction between this and the Life Path. 2026 is a universal 1 (2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10 → 1), so a personal 5 there needs a birth month and birth day reducing to 4: 3 January, 2 February, 1 March, 9 April, 8 May, 7 June, 4 September. Born on 22 September, the working reads 9 + 22 + 1 = 32 → 5, master number noted on the way past and not kept.
The warning the sources attach to a 5 year is scattering, the same one they attach to the digit everywhere else in the chart. A season described as loose is easy to read as permission, and the older writers are careful about this. They present the number as a description of weather, not as an instruction to go outside in it.

January is a personal 6, so the year begins with other people's claims on it. The tradition reads the month as domestic before anything shakes loose.

August drops to a personal 4, the one solidly structural month of the year. Older texts describe it as the year briefly being asked to hold still.

September repeats the personal year itself, because adding nine to any digit returns the same digit. In a 5 year that makes it the least predictable month of the twelve.
OctoberPersonal month 6
Obligations return in October on a personal 6, this time with three quarters of a restless year behind them.
NovemberPersonal month 7
November brings back the personal 7. A second quiet month, and numerologists treat this one as reckoning with what the year moved.

December closes on a personal 8, which is a heavier ending than most positions in the cycle get. Counting, in a year that resisted being counted.

How the number is worked out
The birth year is deliberately left out. That single omission is what makes this number move: the Life Path uses all three parts of a birth date and never changes, while the personal year swaps one part for the calendar and lands somewhere new every January.
Because the universal year advances by one each year and your birth month and day stay put, your personal year also advances by one each year. Nine years later it comes back around. Whichever calendar year you are looking at, the table opposite says which birth month and day sums land on 5.
Two conventions are worth naming. Your birth month and day are reduced by value, so November is 11 and the 22nd is 22; some books add the digits first and get 2 and 4 instead. And some numerologists keep a master number in the final answer rather than collapsing it. This site does not, because a nine-position cycle has nowhere to put a tenth and eleventh position. What comes after a 5 year
Personal year 6 comes next, and the tradition swings the register completely. Six is the household number: family, obligation, the people who have a claim on your time, and the repair of whatever the loose year knocked over. Numerologists describe the handover as the cycle turning inward after four seasons pointed outward. It is the position most often written about in terms of duty, which is why the 5 year and the 6 year read as opposites in almost every source.
