Personality number

The Personality number is the second half of the name split. Vowels go to the Soul Urge, consonants come here, and practitioners read this one as first impressions: how a person comes across in a meeting, at a door, on a first date. It is described as a filter rather than a character. The tradition is explicit that this number can differ sharply from the Soul Urge, and that the difference is the point.

The arithmetic uses the Pythagorean chart on the consonants of the full birth name. Add them, reduce, and keep 11, 22 or 33 if the total lands there. Names carry more consonants than vowels, so Personality totals tend to be the larger of the two halves and often take an extra pass to reduce. Whether Y belongs here depends on the vowel rule in use, which this site states rather than leaves implied.

One thing the tradition rarely mentions: the two halves do not reliably rebuild the whole. Adding the reduced Soul Urge to the reduced Personality is supposed to give the Expression, and much of the time it does, because reduction behaves consistently across addition. Master numbers break it. Two halves reducing to 11 apiece add to a preserved 22, while the full name total might reduce to 4.
