Master number, in full
The label marks a stopping rule. Ordinary reduction keeps folding a total until one digit is left, and a master number is a two-digit total that gets left standing instead. Practitioners read the doubled form as amplified rather than simply higher: an 11 as a 2 under pressure, a 22 as a 4 with far more asked of it. Mechanically this is an exception clause bolted onto a procedure, not a property the numbers have. 11 has the same digital root as 2, and no arithmetic distinguishes them. What distinguishes them is a decision about where to stop reducing, made by convention and applied by convention. This site stops at 11, 22 and 33, and nowhere else, and shows the stopping point in the working rather than presenting the result as though it fell out of the maths.

A worked example
A name whose letters total 47 reduces once to 4 + 7 = 11 and stops there. Without the exemption it would carry on to 1 + 1 = 2. Totals of 29, 38, 47, 56, 65, 74, 83 and 92 all land on 11 by the same one step, and every one of them would otherwise read as a 2. The exemption changes the label and the reading, not the arithmetic underneath it.
