Karmic debt number

A karmic debt number is one of four totals, 13, 14, 16 and 19, that some numerologists flag when it appears before reduction, reading it as a difficulty carried into this life from an earlier one.

A worked example

The same idea with real numbers attached.

A full name totalling 43 reduces to 4 + 3 = 7 and passes without comment. A name totalling 16 also reduces to 7, by 1 + 6, and that 16 is one of the four flagged totals. The reduced answers are identical, so the whole distinction rests on the working being kept rather than discarded. A birth on the 13th is flagged the same way, since 13 reduces to 4.

Karmic debt number: frequently asked

You look at the totals before they were reduced rather than the final digits. If the Life Path, Expression, Soul Urge or Personality passed through 13, 14, 16 or 19 on the way down, practitioners count it, and being born on one of those days of the month counts directly. A calculator that shows only the answer has thrown away the part the tradition cares about, so you would have to redo the addition by hand to find out.

No. It is a twentieth-century addition to Western numerology.

Nothing on this site says so and nothing supports it. Within the tradition a flagged total is read as a difficulty to work through, which is an interpretation rather than a forecast.
