A worked example

The same idea with real numbers attached.

Take 16 July 1990. Month: 07 is 7. Day: 16 becomes 1 + 6 = 7. Year: 1990 gives 19, then 10, then 1. Adding 7 + 7 + 1 comes to 15, and 1 + 5 = 6, so the Life Path is 6. Sum the same date straight through, 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 + 0 + 7 + 1 + 6, and you get 33, a master number left whole. One birthday, two answers.

Life Path number: frequently asked

Reduce the month, the day and the year separately, add the three results, then reduce that total. If the last step lands on 11, 22 or 33, most practitioners stop there.

No. It comes from a birth date, and a birth date does not move.

Because they follow different reduction conventions. One reduces month, day and year separately and then adds them, another sums every digit of the date in a single pass. For most birthdays the two agree. They part company where a master number sits inside one of the three components, since separate reduction can flatten an 11 that the straight-through sum would have kept, and you end up with a 6 on one calculator and a 33 on the next.
