Capricorn and Sagittarius, in brief
The winter solstice falls between these two. Sagittarius runs out on December 21 and Capricorn opens the next day, at the darkest point of the northern year.
Thirty degrees is the smallest gap the zodiac puts between two signs, and it is also the least useful one. Adjacent signs share no element, no mode and no polarity, and this pair proves the rule twice over: earth against fire, cardinal against mutable, yin against yang. Astrologers who bother with the semisextile at all describe it as continuous low-grade adjustment. Not a collision. A rub.
Saturn and Jupiter are the two slowest planets visible without a telescope, and medieval astrologers used their meetings as the clock of history, dating the turn of dynasties to the great conjunction that comes round roughly every twenty years. In the older texts the two are opposites of function. Jupiter enlarges, promises, says yes. Saturn contracts, tests, asks what it will cost. The archer aims at a horizon and sorts out accuracy afterward. The sea-goat picks a summit and accepts that the climb will be unglamorous for a decade. Both signs are genuinely ambitious, and they disagree completely about what ambition looks like on a Tuesday.

The attraction is real and it is mostly about relief. Capricorn has been the responsible one for years and meets somebody who treats an ordinary weekend as an opportunity. Sagittarius has been told to be more realistic by everyone in sight and meets somebody who says nothing about it and quietly pays the deposit.
Relief has a shelf life. Sagittarius makes commitments out loud and generously, meaning every word at the moment of speaking, and Capricorn files a stated intention as a contract entered into. That gap does not stay theoretical for long. It turns into lateness, a booking made without checking, a sum spent that had already been earmarked for something else. Nobody is behaving badly. The two are running different definitions of the word promised.
As friends
Friendship suits them considerably better than romance does. Sagittarius is the friend who gets Capricorn out of the office on a Friday. Capricorn is the one Sagittarius calls at eleven at night from another country when something has gone wrong, and who answers. The division of labour holds because neither is trying to convert the other.
What thins it is one-directional traffic. Capricorn keeps a quiet count of favors and almost never mentions it, and Sagittarius, who assumes generosity is simply the ambient condition of the world, is the last to work out that a count exists. The friendship generally survives the discovery, on condition that Capricorn eventually says something.
Working together
At work the pair covers ground neither could cover alone. Sagittarius opens the market, sells the idea, and believes in it convincingly in front of a room. Capricorn builds the part that still has to exist in five years. Companies with only one of these temperaments tend to fail in a predictable direction.
Forecasting is where it grinds. Jupiter's sign is optimistic about numbers in a way that is not dishonest, only consistently early, and Saturn's sign will not sign off on a projection it cannot defend line by line. The standing meeting is Sagittarius presenting a figure and Capricorn asking where it came from. Run well, that is quality control. Run badly, one person feels audited and the other feels ignored, and both stop bringing things up.
Where it goes wrong
Money is the first fault line, and it stays concrete: the trip booked before the tax bill was set aside, the course paid for and abandoned in week three, the loan to a friend that Capricorn watched leave the account. Capricorn frames the conversation as arithmetic. Sagittarius receives it as a judgment on character, and from that point it is no longer about money.
Tone is the second. Sagittarius says the true thing without softening it and counts that as a virtue. Capricorn absorbs the remark, says nothing at the time, and produces it eighteen months later with the date attached. Cardinal and mutable do not deadlock the way two fixed signs would, so little of this is permanent. Compatibility astrology has never been tested against real relationship outcomes, and this is a description of a known seam rather than a claim about any particular couple.

Capricorn & Sagittarius — frequently asked
Reliably, and rarely about the amount. It is usually about what spending it was supposed to mean.
They are the two planets these signs run on, and older astrology defines them against each other: Jupiter grants, expands and takes the optimistic view, Saturn restricts, delays and demands proof. Their conjunction every twenty years was treated for centuries as the marker for a change of era. Put one on each side of a relationship and the same opposition of function shows up in a kitchen instead of a sky.
It is the flattering version and it does not hold up. Jupiter also governs law, teaching and judgment, so Sagittarius is a sign with strong opinions about how things ought to be done, not merely an appetite for travel. Capricorn, meanwhile, takes larger risks than this pairing gets credit for, just with the downside costed first.
Separate accounts with one joint account for fixed costs, and a habit from Sagittarius of labelling a plan as an idea rather than as a commitment until it has a date. Most of the damage here comes from Capricorn acting on something Sagittarius was only thinking out loud.
