Cancer and Capricorn, in brief
These two mark the turning points of the solar year. The Sun reaches its highest northern declination at the start of Cancer and its lowest at the start of Capricorn, which is why the two tropics carry their names. No other pair in the zodiac sits on an axis with that much physical structure behind it.
In aspect terms this is the opposition: 180 degrees, the same mode on both ends, elements that tradition treats as compatible rather than hostile. What builds the attachment is reliability. Cancer wants somebody who will still be there in a decade, and Saturn-ruled Capricorn is the sign least likely to disappear.
The affection runs in two currencies that do not exchange cleanly. Cancer expresses care by noticing, remembering and feeding. No, and tradition is fairly consistent about that. Opposite signs share a mode and sit in elements that work together, so the opposition is read as high charge and high recognition rather than as damage. What it does not offer is any place to hide from the comparison.
Because of the houses each sign naturally governs. Cancer is associated with the fourth house, the base of the chart: family, roots, the private life. Capricorn is associated with the tenth, the top of the chart: reputation, profession, standing in public. Putting the two signs opposite each other puts those two demands on one line.
Tradition rates it durable rather than easy, which is a different claim. Nothing about sun-sign matching has been measured against real marriages, so the honest version is that the system predicts a long argument between comfort and duty, and says nothing about how any two people settle it.
