The thirty-degree angle between them is a semisextile, which tradition reads as a non-aspect more than a difficult one. Nothing is shared: fire against water, mutable against fixed, one yang sign and one yin. Scorpio holds a position and Sagittarius revises one mid-sentence, and neither behaviour looks like good faith to the other at first.
The rulers make the contrast sharper. Jupiter, traditionally the greater benefic, expands whatever it touches and inclines Sagittarius toward the wide gesture and the large claim. Mars, the older ruler of Scorpio, is the planet of pressure and defence, and modern sources add Pluto for the sign's interest in what is buried. Put an expander next to a concealer and the pattern is predictable: Sagittarius tells the room the story, Scorpio decides which parts of it the room gets.

Sagittarius, in turn, finds Scorpio's refusal to be charmed more interesting than being charmed, which is a rare experience for a sign this fluent.
Depth is where the pairing gets tested. Scorpio treats disclosure as something earned in stages and reads early lightness as evasion. Sagittarius treats the same lightness as friendliness and reads Scorpio's pacing as a game with rules nobody explained. Traditional sources describe Scorpio commitment as total once it arrives; the mutable sign's habit of leaving options open reads to that temperament as a standing insult rather than a personality.
As friends
As friends they can be good for each other in a specific way. Sagittarius will say the thing everyone else is tiptoeing around, and Scorpio, who despises being handled, often prefers that to sympathy. Scorpio in return is the friend who does not flinch at the actual problem, which suits a sign that would rather laugh a difficulty off than sit in it.
The friendship rarely survives one particular event. Sagittarius repeats something in company that Scorpio said in confidence, usually with no malice and often as a compliment. Where it goes wrong
The argument that repeats is about the private thing said in public. It might be a diagnosis, a salary, a family situation, or a two-year-old mistake used as a funny anecdote. Sagittarius does not register a boundary being crossed, so the apology arrives confused and half-hearted, which for Scorpio is worse than the original breach.
The second is the interrogation loop. Scorpio asks a question it already knows the answer to and watches how the answer is given. Sagittarius answers everything at face value, misses the test entirely, and gets accused of hiding something precisely because it did not seem to be hiding anything. Fixed suspicion and mutable inconsistency reinforce each other, and both people leave the conversation certain the other one is the unreasonable party.

Less than people assume. Scorpio prefers a hard truth to a managed one; what it objects to is an audience.
Because the aspect system rewards shared structure, and thirty degrees produces none. Signs that sit next to each other never share an element, a mode or a polarity, so tradition has nothing to build a positive reading on. It is a scoring artifact as much as a judgment about people.
The jealousy story is overused. The more common pattern in this pairing is a slow mismatch in privacy: one sign discloses freely as a sign of warmth, the other discloses selectively as a sign of trust, and each keeps reading the other's default as a comment on the relationship.
An explicit rule about what leaves the house. Scorpio should say which things are private instead of expecting it to be obvious, and Sagittarius should ask before turning a shared story into material. Neither instinct is automatic, so it has to be a stated agreement.
