Aquarius & Capricorn Compatibility

One old ruler in common and no element, mode or tempo in common, which the tradition reads as respect at a distance rather than ease up close.

The angle

Semisextile, 30°

Neighbours, 30° apart. No element, mode or polarity in common, but enough proximity to keep rubbing.

Sun-sign matching is the coarsest layer of the tradition, and none of it has been measured. The rating names a pattern rather than forecasting two people.

Element mix

Air and Earth

Aquarius is fixed air under Saturn (trad.) / Uranus (mod.); Capricorn is cardinal earth under Saturn.

Aquarius and Capricorn, in brief

Love, friendship and work

Love & attraction

Early attraction usually runs in one direction first. Capricorn, after years of measuring status, finds someone genuinely indifferent to it restful. Aquarius finds someone who does what they said they would do more novel than that ought to be. Neither is demonstrative, so neither is disappointed by the other's low output of visible affection.

The negotiation that follows is domestic and specific. Capricorn wants the shape of the next five years. Aquarius declines to have a shape, not from avoidance but because fixing one in advance feels like agreeing to stop thinking. The difference surfaces over property, over whether a job is worth keeping for the pension, over which relatives get Christmas. Since neither sign raises a feeling easily, the whole disagreement gets conducted in logistics.

As friends

Friendship is where the semisextile stops being a liability. Both are low-contact by temperament and neither takes offence at a gap. Capricorn respects competence wherever it appears, and Aquarius is frequently the most competent person in the room about something nobody else in it understands, which is a currency Capricorn accepts.

It works best with a task in the middle. Renovating something, running a committee, sitting on the same board for eleven years. Left with nothing to do together they find there is not much to say, because Capricorn talks about people and progress and Aquarius talks about ideas and systems.

Working together

Professionally the pair is better than the score suggests. Aquarius sees the redesign, Capricorn sees what the redesign costs, and most organisations need both voices in the room. The reliable conflict is scope: Aquarius argues that the current approach is structurally wrong and should be replaced, Capricorn argues that it is delivering and the replacement has no date on it, and each is right about the part they can see. Where this pairing works, somebody has given Aquarius a small budget and a deadline and left Capricorn holding the main line.

Where it goes wrong

Two arguments recur, and the first runs in a loop. Capricorn observes that the plan is not costed. Aquarius hears that the idea is worthless. Aquarius replies that Capricorn has no imagination. Capricorn hears that fifteen years of keeping things standing counted for nothing. Neither insult was intended, and both land.

The other one is social. Capricorn keeps obligations, the family lunch and the colleague's retirement and the anniversary, on the grounds that keeping them is what a serious adult does. Aquarius treats a ritual with no meaning left in it as something to stop doing, and tends to say so at the table. Semisextile pairs are described as tolerable at distance and abrasive at close range, and this is the seam where that shows. Whether two actual people manage it is not a question astrology can answer.

Numbers the two signs bring

These come from the classical planet-number table, the same one behind every sign page. They are traditional, not predictive: no set of numbers changes anyone's odds at anything. For a set that moves with the date, each sign page draws a fresh one daily.

Read the signs on their own

Aquarius & Capricorn — frequently asked

Saturn, under the older system. Modern practice gives Aquarius to Uranus and leaves Capricorn with Saturn alone, so the answer depends on which century you are reading.

Because the whole scoring system is built on shared structure, and adjacent signs share none of it. Every sign alternates element, mode and polarity with the one before it, so a pair thirty degrees apart has no element in common, no mode in common and opposite polarity. Trines and sextiles score well precisely because they have something to hold in common.

That reading misses what Saturn's sign is actually doing. Capricorn takes large risks, but on a schedule and with the downside already priced, which looks like caution from outside and is closer to patience. The genuinely conservative move in this pair is more often Aquarius refusing to revise a position it settled years ago.

A clean split of territory and a date attached to anything experimental. Capricorn will back an unproven idea that comes with a limit on how much it can cost, and Aquarius will accept a deadline far more readily than it will accept being managed.
