Double Play

The main FLORIDA LOTTO draw pulls six balls and stops there, with no extra ball for players to match. The optional Double Play add-on runs a completely separate six-ball draw straight afterwards, using the same numbers already on your ticket.

Florida Lotto, in brief

Prize tiers

From the jackpot down — every division Florida Lotto pays, and how many balls each one takes.

Match 6Jackpot

The jackpot, pari-mutuel and never multiplied, taken as 30 annual payments or a single cash option

Match 5

A set prize of $6,000 up to $30,000, depending on the multiplier printed on the ticket

Match 4

A set prize of $100 up to $500, again scaled by the ticket's multiplier

Match 3

A set prize of $10 up to $50 once the multiplier is applied

Match 2

A free FLORIDA LOTTO Quick Pick ticket for the next drawing. The multiplier doesn't reach this tier.

Every rung is a prize tier, and the ball counts above come straight from the game's matrix. Want the chance behind each rung? Florida Lotto odds, division by division — every combination counted, nothing rounded.

Where Florida Lotto came from

Picking numbers, honestly

What actually changes your odds (nothing) and what doesn't (this).

The multiplier printed on your ticket changes what a win is worth, not how likely it is. It's generated at purchase, long before the balls move, and the biggest one is deliberately scarce: 10X comes up about 1 in 26 tickets, while 2X shows up on roughly one in three. The jackpot ignores the multiplier entirely.

A Double Play ticket is not a second shot at the same result. It's a separate draw of six balls from the same set of 53, run immediately after the main one, and the two draws are independent. Each carries identical jackpot odds of 1 in 22,957,480, so matching in one tells you nothing about the other.

Overall odds of 1 in 7.61 sound generous next to the jackpot number, and they are honest, but almost all of that comes from the bottom tier. Matching 2 of 6 wins a free Quick Pick rather than cash, and it happens on about 1 in 8.58 plays. Cash starts at a match of three.

Each of these has a longer answer with the arithmetic shown. Start with whether a number can be due and what the most-drawn numbers really tell you. If you are weighing a quick pick against your own line, the comparison is here.

Florida Lotto — frequently asked

No. The field has been six numbers from 1 to 53 since October 1999. What changed on 8 October 2020 was the $2 price, the multiplier becoming standard on every ticket, and the arrival of the Double Play add-on.

A $1 add-on that enters your six numbers into a second drawing held right after the main FLORIDA LOTTO draw, using its own set of 53 balls. The top prize is a fixed $250,000 rather than a rolling jackpot, and the multiplier on your ticket applies to the Double Play tiers below it in the same way.

Yes. For $1 the terminal prints six EZmatch numbers below your line. Any that match one of your six wins on the spot, up to $500.

No. The jackpot and the match-2 free ticket are both excluded. Only the match-3, match-4 and match-5 prizes get multiplied.

They're far shorter. Six from 53 gives 22,957,480 possible combinations, against roughly 292 million for Powerball. The trade-off is the jackpot ceiling: Florida's top prize starts at $1 million and is funded by one state's ticket sales, while Powerball pools the whole country and regularly runs into nine figures.
