Capricorn and Scorpio, in brief
Older astrology called Saturn and Mars the malefics, the two planets nobody wanted prominent in a chart. This pair is ruled by both, and it still lands among the better-rated combinations on the wheel.
Sixty degrees puts Capricorn and Scorpio in a sextile, the aspect tradition reserves for complementary elements. Earth with water is the yin version. Water gives earth something to grow and earth gives water a shape to hold, and the reading is cooperation without resemblance. Both signs are yin in polarity as well, which means neither performs for a room. Two people who are not performing work that out about each other very quickly, and the recognition accounts for most of why this pairing feels easy early.
Saturn runs Capricorn. Scorpio answers to Mars in the older scheme and Pluto in the modern one, and either reading keeps the pairing hard-edged. What Saturn and Mars share is a tolerance for unwelcome information. Neither sign needs a situation described optimistically and both are suspicious of anyone who insists on doing so. Capricorn is cardinal and starts things, Scorpio is fixed and does not let go of them, which makes the combination unusually good at long projects and unusually bad at abandoning one that has stopped working. Courtship runs slowly from both sides and neither minds. Scorpio spends the first months quietly establishing whether somebody can be trusted with anything real, and Capricorn, conducting more or less the same assessment in a different vocabulary, does not experience the testing as an insult. Both are watching behaviour rather than listening to statements. Very little of the first year gets said out loud, and both would report that it is going well.
Once it sets, the loyalty is heavy on both sides. Scorpio commits completely and expects the same back. Capricorn treats a partnership as a structural commitment rather than a mood. Neither leaves easily, and that durability cuts in both directions: a relationship these two have decided to keep can comfortably outlast the point at which it was any good, because quitting is the move each of them finds hardest to make.
As friends
The friendship is small, old and extremely private. Neither discusses it with anyone else, and both count that as a feature. Scorpio brings accurate reads on everybody in the room, Capricorn brings the follow-through, and between them they have solved more problems for each other than either has ever described to a third party.
What the pairing lacks is lightness. Neither is the friend who makes an evening silly, and two people who both take things seriously can go a long stretch without laughing properly. Most Capricorn and Scorpio friendships keep a fire or air sign somewhere in orbit for exactly that reason.
Working together
Work is the pairing's best room. Scorpio establishes what is actually happening in an organisation long before it gets said in a meeting, Capricorn knows what to do with the information once it exists, and both are content to work in silence while somebody louder collects the short-term credit. Deadlines get met. Neither requires supervision.
The risk is that they close ranks. Two guarded people running the same project can end up sharing everything with each other and nothing with anyone else, which reads as a faction from outside even when nothing is going on. Capricorn's instinct is to control the process and Scorpio's is to control who knows what, and stacked together those instincts leave a team feeling managed rather than informed.
Where it goes wrong
Control is the recurring fight, though it almost never arrives labelled as one. Capricorn controls through structure: the budget, the calendar, the decision that was settled before the conversation opened. Scorpio controls through access: what gets shared, when, and how much of the reasoning comes attached. Each finds the other's method quietly underhanded and regards its own as simply sensible.
Neither forgives out loud, which is the second problem. Scorpio holds a grievance without announcing it and Capricorn keeps something closer to an account, so a serious breach can sit unaddressed for years while both behave impeccably. When it does surface it arrives complete, with dates, and the other person has had no opportunity to repair any of it in the meantime. None of this has been tested against real relationships. It describes two temperaments the tradition has been warning about for a very long time.

The aspect puts two signs sixty degrees apart in elements the tradition treats as feeding each other. Earth gives water containment, water gives earth something to work with, and neither element competes with the other for the same register. Sextiles are also read as less automatic than trines, which suits two signs that would rather build a thing than be handed it.
Malefic in the old texts means difficult, not bad. Saturn brings limitation and Mars brings conflict, and a person shaped by either tends to be practised at handling both. Two of them together get a relationship with an unusually high tolerance for bad news, which is a real advantage. The cost shows up in warmth, not in competence.
