A hundred and fifty degrees is a quincunx, sometimes called the inconjunct, and the name is the point: the two signs are not conjoined by anything. No shared element, no shared mode, no shared polarity, and not even the mirrored recognition an opposition provides. Classical sources describe the angle as one where the signs cannot see each other properly, which is why it earns the bottom score rather than the drama a square gets.
Saturn and Mercury are unlike each other in exactly the way that matters here. Mercury, ruling Gemini, is quick, plural and provisional; it revises, jokes, tries an argument on and puts it down. Saturn, ruling Capricorn, is slow, singular and binding; it treats time as a cost and a stated intention as a contract. There is a real attraction available here and it is usually novelty. Capricorn, who works hard and socialises efficiently, finds Gemini's speed and lightness genuinely refreshing, and Gemini finds Capricorn's certainty unusual after a run of people as changeable as itself. Early on, each represents a holiday from the other's default setting.
The stress comes from what counts as a commitment. Gemini floats an idea about moving cities, changing jobs or spending a summer somewhere, meaning it as conversation. Capricorn hears a plan and starts costing it. When Gemini later says it was only talking, Capricorn does not experience that as a clarification; it experiences it as a person who says things that are not true. Repeat this four times and Capricorn stops taking anything Gemini says at face value, which Gemini feels immediately and cannot name.
As friends
Friendship is the format that works best, mostly because it has a lower disclosure requirement. Gemini brings Capricorn information, gossip, a lighter register and the occasional useful introduction. Capricorn gives Gemini something scarce in that sign's life, which is one person who will still be exactly where they were in five years.
It works with distance and struggles with dependency. Gemini's attention is genuinely wide rather than shallow, but it moves, and Capricorn measures friendship by consistency of presence. A Gemini friend who vanishes for six months and returns delighted is behaving normally by Gemini's standards and has, by Capricorn's, quietly ended something.

Where it goes wrong
The argument that defines this pairing is the one about what was agreed. Gemini says it was thinking out loud; Capricorn says it was told a thing and acted on it. Both are describing the same conversation accurately from inside their own sign, which is why it never resolves cleanly. Over time Capricorn starts requiring confirmation for ordinary statements, and Gemini starts feeling policed for the crime of speaking.
The second is a difference in how seriousness is signalled. Gemini deflects a heavy moment with a joke, which is not avoidance so much as the sign's native way of handling pressure. Capricorn, who does not make jokes about things that cost money or matter to its reputation, reads the deflection as proof that the other person is not taking the situation seriously. The follow-up lecture is where the affection usually starts leaking out.

An awkward 150-degree angle between signs that share no element, mode or polarity, and therefore have no obvious common ground.
Because a square at least gives two signs the same mode, so they clash over something they both care about at the same tempo. The quincunx gives them nothing in common at all, and tradition treats indifference as a worse starting position than conflict.
It does not, and the number should be held loosely. Sun-sign scoring is the coarsest layer of a centuries-old sorting system, and nobody has ever tested it against how relationships actually go. Plenty of Capricorn and Gemini couples last for decades and describe exactly the friction above as the thing they learned to work around.
Agree a marker for the difference between thinking and deciding. Gemini saying it out loud, and Capricorn waiting for the marker before acting, removes most of the recurring argument at its source.
