There is real respect at the start and it is mutual. A 9 recognises that a 22 is building something that will outlast them, which is the only kind of ambition this number takes seriously. A 22 recognises that a 9 is not in it for themselves, which is the only kind of person a 22 fully trusts.
What erodes it is time rather than values. A 22 in the middle of building can be absent for years while technically at home, and the tradition says most 22 relationships fail on that rather than on incompatibility. A 9 does not complain about absence, being used to giving without receiving, and will instead quietly redirect their own attention outward to people who are present. Neither of them notices the substitution happening until it is finished. Numerology treats the 22 absence as the standing hazard of the path and does not consider the case where the partner responds by giving their attention to somebody else entirely.
As friends
Better than the romance, and both would say so. Neither requires maintenance, both take the other seriously, and a 9 is one of very few people who will listen to a 22 describe a build without asking what it pays. That absence of a follow-up question is worth a great deal to a 22, who spends most conversations being asked to justify the scale of what they are doing.
Working together
Professionally they can share a mission and cannot share a budget.
