This starts intensely, because both numbers do. An 11 in love is intense early and needs more reassurance than they will admit to needing, and a 5 is warm, immediate and generous in the first months in a way that reads as exactly that reassurance. Neither of them is misleading the other.
What follows is a slow escalation nobody chose. The 5 changes a plan, without malice and without noticing. The 11 reads the change for meaning, because that is what this number does with everything, and the tradition says 11s spend real years inside stories assembled from a delayed reply and a slightly odd look. The 5, sensing an atmosphere they cannot account for, becomes less specific about their movements rather than more, which is the opposite of the correction required. Better and still tiring for the 11. A 5 friend brings enormous amounts of the outside world, which is stimulating and which an 11 absorbs whole, including the moods of everyone the 5 introduced them to. The tradition warns 11s away from high-noise environments and a 5 is a high-noise environment with a person attached.
What the 5 gets is somebody who notices when they are not fine, which almost nobody does, because a 5's charm is load-bearing and most people accept it at face value. That accuracy is genuinely valuable and it is also the thing that makes the romantic version so hard, because the same faculty that spots a bad week spots an unexplained Tuesday.
Working together
There is one arrangement that works and it needs a fixed brief. Numerology puts 11s where reading people accurately is the job, in counselling, teaching, the arts, design and ministry, and puts 5s where variety is built into the week. On a shared project the 11 supplies judgement and the 5 supplies reach, and the failure point is always the same, which is a 5 changing the shape of the thing between two conversations. A 22 or a 4 would hold that shape. A 5 will not.
Both undercharge for unrelated reasons. An 11 undercharges because insight arrives so easily it does not feel like work, and the traditional advice is to price the outcome and keep a dull financial buffer specifically so the flat periods do not turn into panic ones. A 5's money simply moves too fast to be priced. Neither will fix the other.
Where it goes wrong
The recurring event is an unannounced change and a silent interpretation of it. The tradition's corrective for 11s is dull and effective, which is to check the thing rather than model it, and its corrective for 5s is equally dull, which is to say out loud what they actually need. Both are available. Neither number reaches for them without prompting, and there is nobody else in the household to prompt.
The second is that an 11's anxiety asks for specificity and a 5's whole temperament resists it. A promise about next Thursday is not a restriction to most people and is one to a 5, and the request for it, repeated, is exactly what makes this number keep an exit open. Numerologists say the open exit does as much damage as any closed door, and in this pairing it is also the thing keeping the alarm on.
